My top secret project is something so exciting I can’t even begin to tell you. It is so much more interesting than the only words I can use to describe it at the moment: a series of non-fiction books for kids. I wish I could tell all, really I do. But when I reveal the details, I want it to be something special; to share the excitement with you in more than just a few words.
Instead, I’ll leak a few teasing announcements here and there, as well as some general updates on the Breaking News page. Just because I know you’ll love the suspense.
My first announcement is that it is not really ‘my’ project; it’s ‘ours’. Yes, I have an amazing CO-AUTHOR on my first project.
It’s no secret that I’m in awe of Tania McCartney. She has self-published two brilliant children’s books and an adult non-fiction, runs the website Kids’ Book Review (for which I am a Senior Reviewer – yay!), writes for various publications and has approximately two million other projects on the go right now. She is one busy lady.
I love the way she writes, and her passion for all she does is evident when you read her words.
A couple of months ago, I got the nerve to email Tania something, an idea that was brewing in my mind. I knew she would be the person to give me an honest, professional opinion and good advice. We had ‘clicked’ since we e-met, she was encouraging me to write, and I knew she would get this big idea. And she did.
But not only did she love it, she wanted to be involved.
Can you imagine my reaction? Cue squealing, plenty of OMGs, and making my husband listen as I read him the email, stopping every now and then to say, Did you hear that bit? An author wants to work with ME!
Since that day, Tania and I have worked hard to grow and develop the idea, evolving it into something that will give us a professional, marketable book series that we think kids (and their parents) will LOVE.
So far, we have our book layout, we have a first draft. And Tania and I have the beginning of a wonderful new working relationship and friendship.
