Those of us who reside in 'Blog Land' for part of our days get to know each other. Through a love of writing, we share so many parts of our lives, from the day-to-day to the extraordinary times, from our darkest days to our most hilarious moments. And there are so many blogs out there, with thousands of people to read about, who share about themselves or the things they do and love, or specific points of their life.
But, while there are some great blogs out there, and many that you might love to read, every now and then you come across a person you can really relate to. That person might write in a way that clicks with you, or about something that resonates long after you've closed the website. You might have similar interests or share a slightly deranged sense of humour.
I have been lucky enough to chat online with a few such people. And one of these is the gorgeous Jodie from Mummy Mayhem. Jodie was one of the first blogs I came across and also one of the first to begin following my little blog. We soon became regular commenters on each other's posts and when I joined Twitter, we began sharing snippets of humour and life, 140 characters at a time.
When I told her I was coming to Sydney, we agreed it could be fun to meet face-to-face and settled on a Sunday lunch. Jodie, ever organised, took care of the details, booking a restaurant in a stunningly beautiful spot and promising to bring along a bottle of champagne.
When the day came, I decided to take a ferry to Manly that morning, before getting on another one over to the restaurant (right next to Luna Park, where the photo above was taken). So I turned up looking like a weary traveller, windswept and slightly wobbly after being on a choppy, windy Harbour. And that was before I'd even had my first drink.
I arrived at the restaurant right on time, which was a fluke of ferry timing more than planning. And I sat soaking up the view for a couple of minutes, at which point I became a little nervous. What if we had nothing to talk about in person? Wouldn't it be awful to meet someone you had clicked with online, just to find out you actually sit there with awkward silences? Then I looked around and saw a smiling Jodie headed towards me. She looked just like her pictures on her blog and Twitter (except she's more than just a head - who knew?!) and we began chatting straight away.

We enjoyed squid, creme brulee and champagne in the sunshine along Sydney Harbour. Jodie was just as lovely as I had anticipated, just as she comes across on her blog. And we talked and talked about all manner of things. Things that I wouldn't dream of saying the first time I met someone, only it wasn't really the first time we had met.
I felt as though I could have stayed chatting with Jodie all afternoon. Followed by another bottle of champagne and more chatting into the evening. Which we shall have to do one of these days, because I'm writing this and thinking of all the things I wanted to ask her about and forgot.
Anyway, thanks for a wonderful afternoon, Jodie!
Let your fingers do the running, not walking, over to Jodie's blog and follow her on Twitter.

I read Jodie's post about your meeting yesterday and I was hoping you'd do one, too.
So wonderful!!
You lucky things. xx
Hey Megan, I recently met up with some guys from a sailing forum that I "hang out" at. It is always interesting to put faces to names.
Helloooo my (in person) friend!
Oh, I had such a wonderful time, and I love this post. You write so beautifully, and really set the scene. It was so much fun. Can't wait to do it again!
Hugs
Jodie
PS - Hubby eventually managed to locate all the high chair stuff, and was even able to open it! Who knew he could be so resourceful?
Sounds great Megan. Lovely setting too.
I loved reading both of your posts about your gorgeous lunch.
It sounds like you both had such an amazing time. How exciting for you to finally meet!
I am so glad. I have had the fortune of meeting online freinds IRL too, and it is a very happy thing.
that's such a wonderful story. i've never met someone who i met through my blog but i have become friends with people i already knew.
when i started my blog, i learnt two people who i worked with (at the time) were also bloggers. so, we followed each other but it was really a token gesture, for all of us i am sure.
however, through their words i learnt so, so much about them that i would never have otherwise known. these people were simply colleagues but have become my friends.
in addition, it's been an interesting lesson in first impressions. one of these people in particular was so closed - i just though she was a bitch. but she was actually harbouring issues so very similar to mine. we really connect now.
anyway, i am really rambling. sorry.
oh wow - how lovely!
It is wonderful that you were able to meet IRL and hit it off as well as you do online.
I'm glad you enjoyed such a lovely afternoon.

Great work guys! I love meeting bloggers. Four or five of my closest friends when I was living overseas, I met through my blog! When I moved to Darwin, I immediately tracked down a few Darwin bloggers and tweeters and met them too. They were my only friends I'm Darwin until w went back to work. It seems it's my average method of meeting new people. I'd be a perfect candidate for online dating if I wasn't married!
Hi Megan, I really enjoyed reading this post. What a great opportunity for you to meet Jodie :)
Lovely ! I love meeting my blog friends ... love it. I am yet to be disappointed or stuck for words, the friends I have met from the blogosphere are my closest and most treasured friends. Good for you ! xx
Love it Megs! I think it was through Jodie that I met you on twitter and I love your blogs and seeing what you're up to!! You write such lovely pieces!!
That's so cool that you guys met up! I commented on Jodie's blog that I'd like to do something similar in Sydney and Melbourne when I'm out.
Also, it's a pretty coincidence that most of the Melbourne bloggers live around the same area - it must be fate that we should catch up over coffee (or champagne!)
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!! Like Thea I read Jodie's post and hoped you'd do one too! It's so great that you guys got to meet. Maybe one day we'll be able to have a big blogger get together! xxx
I love stories like these - Kindred spirits! :) I will now mosey on over to Mummy Mahem and become her newest follower...
that is so cool, i hope to meet some of my bloggy friends in person, I imagine it would be weird and wonderful at the same time!
