Today I'm linking up with Childhood 101's We Play - where ideas for playtime with kids are shared.
Last week, my niece (Miss C, almost 3 years old) spent an afternoon with my daughter (20 months) and I. We read lots of books, sang songs, drew and baked, but when Miss C declared that she wanted to play a game, I had to stop and think. My little girl, Abbey, is too young for board games and the like, so we don't have any in the house and I drew a blank as to what else we could play.
Luckily, Miss C came up with another idea: 'Let's do fairy dances, Aunty Megan!' she said. So we danced and twirled and then, when we were tired and dizzy, we sat down on two chairs that happened to be out in the lounge room. I had a flash of my childhood games and put one chair in front of the other (as in the picture above, with Miss C waiting patiently there) - and we spent ages playing imaginary games.
The chairs became a car, with me as the driver in the front (illegally, I might add, allowing little Abbey to sit on my lap in the front seat - tut tut) and Miss C sat in the back laughing as we turned some very exaggerated corners, beeped the horn and went over bumpy roads. Then the chairs became a boat and we sang 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' as we sailed along.
It really is fun to act like a kid sometimes. Oh, and Abbey and Miss C had fun too...

I *love* that my son's imagination has exploded in the last 3 months. It is amazing to watch him come up with these wacky scenarios and fun games. Pretending is the best - and it really helps develop our kids' brains!
I love it when kids help us as adults to recapture a little of our inner child...!

Nothing more fun than reverting back to your childhood when you play with kids! It's absolutely magic.
This sounds like such a fun day! I love how much fun kids (and adults, if they join in) can have with something as simple as two chairs.
Ah, it's amazing what we can come up with when we use our imaginations!
With my boys - when I'm in doubt, and especially if it's a rainy day, we play tents. We hang some blankets down from the top bunk, give them a camping lantern and they hop in there on the bottom bunk together. They love it!

Row,Row,Row Your Boat and Motor Boat are two of my favorite action songs to sing with my class. The girls enjoy these songs but not half as much as the boys. We sit on the floor with our legs stretched out in front of us and sing very slow and get faster and faster until our arms and legs wear out. I do not have to exercise on the days I do these two songs with my class. It's fun to be a kid again.
Isn't it beautiful, learning how to play again via children. So beautiful to recapture.
It wont be long until your 20 month old is asking to play cars and boats and buses over and over again :)
yes it so much fun sometimes when one becomes a kid a again for a period of time...
