Three nephews and two nieces on my side of the family, and two nieces on Steve's side, ranging in age from ten years to two weeks - they're all gorgeous kids.
Being an aunty is so different to being a mum. Mainly because you just get the fun bits, without the sleepless nights and tantrums. But since having Abbey, I also love seeing her develop relationships with her cousins.
She sees six of her cousins (the seventh lives in Sydney and we're yet to meet her!) regularly. And her face lights up when she does.
Abbey looks adoringly at ten-year-old Miss S and tries to do everything she does; she runs around crazily with six-year-olds Mr L and Mr H; plays with and avoids cuddles from almost-four-year-old Miss E; loves but clashes with three-year-old Miss C; and gently pats the little two-week-old baby (Mr as-yet-unnamed!).
And she loves it when her mum stops working and does fun things when the kids come over - like going to a kids' day at the local tulip festival with the very gorgeous six-year-old Mr L yesterday:
A tractor ride!

Running among the tulips (Mr L trying to hold Abbey still for a quick photo!) (Yes, Abbey has a blue nose from the stamps in the craft tent!)
Megan

This is a beautiful post Megan! and I was out for coffee at knox yesterday with MY cousin!! Haha.. I never socialised a lot with her as I was growing up, cos she is about 5 years older than me.. and we have quite a large family.. But now that we are grown up, we get along quite well...
ReplyDeleteWe were talking about her kids, how they are growing up and how they interact and socialise with THEIR cousins.. She was telling me how Mr J has at times had his older cousins stand up for him and show their protective streak and the same for his little sister Miss A.
I know I have always felt such a connection with my cousins near and far. A familiarity with them which you don't feel with everyone else in the world.. And I have about 40 odd cousins.. Very lucky I am.. Closer to some than others.. Some are like surrogate brothers and sisters to me... Lovely post Megan! It makes me wish my niece was closer!!
Yay! How gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI was born an aunt, so I never knew that 'feeling' of becoming one for the first time. Always jealous of others experiencing it!
However...my first Great nephew was born last year, and there it was. The pride and love of becoming an aunt. A GREAT aunt!
My niece will have her first this December and I anticipate wonderful emotions with that, because we were always very close growing up; we played dolls togethers etc, so I think I'll really feel it.
I just wish I could see them more often!
You are looking all fresh and new.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing you designs on places I regularly visit.
I'm an aunt 10 times over and I adore all of them but must admit that my brother's girls are the ones that the Bebito adores most (and vice versa) but we don't see them that often. They live well over an hour drive away and you know, family "stuff" gets in the way sometimes too which is a shame. Abbey is super lucky to have such an array of relationships with her cousins. All my cousines were either interstate or 12 years younger than me so I was never that close to them growing up.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL
ReplyDeleteCousins are the best. My kids adore their cousins.
ReplyDeleteI love the pic on the tractor. :)
