A case of the 'can't be bothereds'

“It’s baked beans on toast for dinner tonight,” I announced to Abbey. Her response surprised me and made me laugh.

“Yay! Yay! Yaaaaay!” she yelled as she jumped up and down. Then she stopped. “With butter on the toast?” she asked and, when I nodded, she continued the excited exclamations.

Okay. Not quite the response I was expecting, and if she were any older than two I’d probably have accused her of being overly sarcastic.

In fact, it was baked beans on toast for the second night in a row, and we’d eaten macaroni cheese for the two nights prior to that. The only excuse I can muster is that Steve was away for the week and I was acting like a ‘bachelor’, but really I just couldn’t be bothered cooking that week.

Let’s face it, we all have the ‘can’t be bothereds’ every now and then. Right? Right.

So, let’s have some fun and think about the shortcuts we sometimes take. What's your latest 'can't be bothered' moment?

Oh, where do I start?

I do it with meals all the time. Tuna & pasta pesto comes up almost weekly on our meal plan (for the boys mostly). Boil the pasta, throw in the sauce and tuna. Done. Easy-peasy.

I have to organise so many things that it's stressing me out a bit at the moment.

Short cuts are ok. You have to do what you can when you can...and baked beans? Yum.

I think I have to learn some good shortcuts...gotta say that I'm letting the dusting suffer....and Bebito's wardrobe is looking a bit worse for wear....and our room....don't get me started. I NEED better shortcuts than not tidying up properly though. :)

We stop to buy fresh bread on the way back from school drop offs - Lexie has fresh bread for morning tea, straight from the bag.

And for afternoon tea? All three help me get fruit and veggies - afternoon tea sorted!

I probably have stacks, but this week as the girls were lazing around and not eating before my gym class at 9am, I put nutrimgrain and sultanas into a container each and a juice prima in the creche bag and that was morning tea and breakfast in one.

Call me bogan, that's ok.

My can't be bothered meal is frozen ravioli Pasta Vera or Pastabilities. My husband actually went and bought some pasta wholesale... it just shows how often my 'can't be bothered' moment happens.

But seriously, how delicious are baked beans on buttered toast? I'd be jumping too! x

I read somewhere that beans count as a serve of vegies. Yay! Yay! Yaaaay!

My can't be bothered dinner is toast with Vegemite, or perhaps an egg if I'm feeling a little adventurous and gourmet ;)

Yay for baked beans on toast.

Bacon and cheesy pasta.

Canned tuna and canned corn in a bowl (I shit you not).

Favourites of the "can't be arsed" brigade.

And all far, far better than takeout.

But I really shouldn't be having the couldn't be bothereds every night, should I?

Am so with you. My children ate toast tonight. And grapes. Very nutritious those grapes xx

My can't be bothered is my armpits, toenails (as in repainting) and bathroom sink (as in wiping).

I've also had leftovers reheated from the freezer three nights in a row now. Must be the moon. x

My can't be bothered is my veggie patch. The tomatoes refused to ripen, the beans weren't producing anything but whitefly, so I ripped them out and now the tubs are bare. And bare they will stay. For now.

I love you guys - my husband is the cook in our house and when he is not around we have the staple frozen pies and chips but now they are sweet potato ones!
