Sleee - yawn - eeep

Sleep and I are usually very, very good friends. Besties.

That's because I'm one of life's deep sleepers.

I'll sleep through anything.

A storm,
the dog waking,
Steve being called out to a fire call (he's a volunteer firefighter, and a callout involves his pager beeping loudly, a siren going off in the area, him turning a light on, getting dressed and leaving, then returning and climbing back into bed),
possums jumping on the roof,
dogs barking outside,
heavy rain on the tin roof,
noises outside the tent when we're camping,
Abbey waking up during the night (oops).

But sleep and I seem to be having some issues of late.

Steve was away recently and I struggled sleeping. Suddenly, I was in the same position as my light-sleeping husband. I knew I had to hear everything, and I really did hear EVERYTHING.

The dog rolling over on her bed,
the chickens buck-bucking from their coop,
the possums outside (turns out they're actually really noisy - who knew?),
cars driving past,
a piece of dust falling on the floor,
someone yawning five kilometres away,
any slight noise from Abbey's room.

And now, even though Steve is home and everything is as it should be, sleep remains elusive. For the last week, I've been awake for a couple of hours each night.

So here I am, at 1am, unable to sleep. And hoping, desperately, that all will resolve itself soon. (That is, my throbbing head, cough and runny nose will stop, and my very itchy and painful eczema will calm down.)

Yawn.

Sleep, I want to be your BFF again.

  1. Oh, I know the feeling. All it takes is a couple of nights and suddently light sleeping becomes a habit. I hope your BFF returns soon. Maybe some warm milk with honey before bed to entice it?

  2. Oh I lurve sleep, too!
Since I've had the kids though I wake at every little sound. I even wake thinking they've called my name, when they haven't....*sigh*.

Hope you become that lovely deep sleeper again soon.

  4. I was once a sleep hour-counter. Nine hours was a good night, seven a bad night. HA!! Thank gawd nobody told me that one day five hours uninterrupted was a rare treat in mother-dom. May sleep return to you...and in the meantime drink heaps and heaps of water. xo

  5. I love my sleep, but there are times when I go through phases where I can't sleep.
Ah if only I could sleep for a week to catch up?!!!
