Green is an odd colour, really. It represents the ugly emotion of jealousy and the clutches of sickness, yet it also gives us permission to 'Go'.
It can be a colour of fun, as Abbey showed using it as one of many colours in her artwork, created as wrapping paper for her cousin's birthday present:
And the green of the open road, heading to my sister's house in the country, was the theme of our day.
The green of the grass in one of the lushest areas in Victoria, so bright it's almost fluorescent.
The last of the green leaves on the sparse trees, hanging on through a tough autumn with every inch of their being.
The green of the sheds and hay bale wrappers on the farms.
The green road signs, announcing town names so weird that they make me laugh, their numbers proving you're making progress on a long drive,
And yet showing that the roads never end, that no matter how long you drive in this country there's still much, much more ahead of you.
The future and past blue and hazy, the countryside emerging into brilliant green as it becomes the present.
And then returning in the dark, the land black and hidden, with just the smallest glimpse of green emerging under the headlights.
Today, green meant freedom.

ReplyDeleteGreen is one of the best colours. There are so many shades too, from the warm golden greens of new spring leaves to the cooler, darker deep greens of shady trees in late summer.
