I have had thirty years to practice my life skills. Abbey has had just two years. And yet, there are some things she is much better at already...
Swimming.
Let's start off with the really embarrassing one. I admit, I
Puzzles.
Abbey has a very logical mind, and puzzles are one of her favourite things. She'll look at a puzzle and figure it out, having it completed in record time. Me? I might play around with the edge pieces, vaguely look at the other bits, and then find an excuse to do something else. (And yes, I'm talking about toddler puzzles here.)
Hula hooping.
Well, she can't actually do this. But she does do a much better job of looking funny whilst trying, as opposed to just completely uncoordinated and ridiculous.
Falling over.
Falling is all about the landing, something I never quite cottoned on to as a kid - or as an adult. I am known for moving my hands out of the way when I fall over... and landing on my face instead. Abbey is smarter, and puts her hands out to stop her fall.
Remembering things.
I have a shocking memory. I'll read a book for the twentieth time and still wonder what happens at the end. (I might have blogged about this before, but I can't really remember. Boom-tish.) Abbey, meanwhile, seems to have photographic recall over every single detail of her life thus far.
Using technology.
At age two, my daughter tells me how to use my iPhone - "No, Mummy, like this." I guess that's what happens when one generation grew up excited that their family got a VCR at some point during mid-childhood, and the other has been exposed to computers and mobile devices since birth.
There are lots more things, but for the sake of my reputation let's leave it there!
What things is your child better at than you?

LOL, I can't swim either! My son is better than me at: staying fully present in the moment, not caring about what other people think, and living life in total freedom. He's 4 months old, and has it all sorted more than me :)
Thanks for sharing! :)
ha ha ha love this post!
All my big kids are better at puzzles than me... MUCH better!
Mine is better at negotiating than me. How embarrassing.
Angry Birds on the Iphone xx
My three year old has an amazing memory, also. She will talk about something that has happened and it can take me a LONG time to catch on and recall the moment.
And both girls are better with my phone than I. Especially the games like Angry Birds - I just can't get that - but they're pros already!
Mine are better at putting things together than I am. And at telling me how they work!
So sweet.
I thought I was stubborn - until I met my gorgeous little offspring!
He can outwit, outlast & outplay me!!
:-)
LOVE this. S is a better swimmer than me too - I can barely float. He can tell his left from his right better than me too! :)
hahaha! Love this post, Megan!
What are my kids better at than me...H is better at anything requiring coordination and/or heights; C is better at dirty looks lol and young C is better at sleeping (but only because one or all of the three wake me up!). xo
Love your 'boom-tish' moment there. LOL.
I have always known that my boys would be better at Maths than I am. It's TOTALLY my weak point.
I had to look up what a trapezium was just minutes ago to help me check my 9yo's homework.
*sigh*
I'm sure there's more. There will be more. I just know it....
This is great. I am with you on the puzzles. I have not ever been a fan. There are days when the boys decide to pull out the puzzle box and throw every piece on the floor. The control freak in me HAS to put each puzzle together before I can put it away. These days are not much fun! I am smarter now - the puzzle box is kept out of arm's reach! They are clever little cookies, aren't they?
This is a good thing. She's totally ready to look after you in your declining years, may they be far far away....
Oh yes - my girls are often asked to remind me of things. I guess it's their fault I lost my memory so it's only fitting!! Yay for the next generation being much better than us at many many things :)
Hee hee! This is super cute! x
It's scares me, the iphone thing. The way they can swipe between pages to look for the youtube icon BEFORE THEY ARE TWO! When I was two we didn't even have a regular telephone let alone a iphone. Crazy.
XXX
Oh puzzles do my head in!
My daughter is better at wearing my clothes than me, she puts ojn a top and I think Oh.... that's what it's supposed to look like!
Love this list. It's SO true! My memory I'm sure is getting transferred to my two children. xx
