My happy hair (+ Giveaway)

Something small can have a big impact on your day-to-day life.

I have, um, interesting skin. And the state of my skin will affect how comfortable I am, how well I sleep, and how pleasant I am to be around.

Using something on my skin that irritates it can make my life miserable. It's that simple - and that difficult.

My head is the hardest of all to please. The psoriasis on my scalp (something I don't very often admit to having - it's quite embarrassing!) can at worst be tight and constantly itchy and sore, and at best just dry.

I spent a couple of years using tar ointments, cortisone creams and medicated shampoos in an effort to get rid of it - all of which left my skin worse than ever and my hair in a shocking state. It's one of the reasons I kept my hair so short for so many years - it's hard to have long hair when you have handfuls of it falling out every time you shower.

In the end I decided that if none of that was making my skin condition any better, I might as well focus on just soothing it. And having nicer hair.

And so I'm back to using normal shampoos - Pantene being my recent brand of choice. My skin is fine with it and it makes my hair look shiny and smooth, and it's helped build up the strength of my hair again.

All was travelling along well - until I received an email about Pantene's latest product. I tried it and.... WOW! I've honestly never been this stunned by a shampoo in my life.

My skin is better than it has been in years*. My hair is better than it has been in years.

Here it is:

Yes, three products. Shampoo, conditioner and an 'Intensive Penetrating Treatment'. I had never used a third treatment product in my hair until now, and would have overlooked it on the supermarket shelves, but it was a big factor in getting my hair back to lovely - so I'm glad I had the chance to give it a shot.

I'll definitely keep using the Pantene Nature Fusion products!

*

WIN one of three Pantene one-week trial kits.

1. Fullness-charge Revitalising - for thin hair.
2. Micro-repair Revitalising - for chemically damaged hair.
3. Hydro-surge Revitalising - for dry and frizzy hair.

(These are not from the Nature Fusion range, but are a good sample of the Pantene brand.)

To enter, simply leave a comment telling me which one you'd like to win (1, 2 or 3).

Australian residents only. Giveaway ends at 5pm Sunday 17th July 2011 (AEST). Good luck!

*

* Just a little note that this is not a product for psoriasis or other skin conditions - this is just my experience with my very strange skin!

[Disclaimer: I was sent samples of these products to try, and I have chosen to blog about them due to my positive experience. I was not paid to write this post, and the glowing opinion is entirely my own. Which of course it would have been even if I'd been paid... but you knew that.]

I don't need to win the products but I had to let you know that I too have psoriasis on my scalp and have done since I was a kid. And I have to be careful about shampoo products and how they react and cause my scalp to flare up. I found the Nature Fusion range didn't cause a reaction - a big plus in my book!

I also have psoriasis on my scalp, I have tried many things, but a script from the doctor for elocon lotion (mometasone) was the only thing that completely clears it up, and it's easy to put on!

Great post and description of the products available, hadn't heard of this part of Pantene's range before. I would love to win No 1. please. Ever since the birth of my twins (now almost 3y/o) I've had slowly thining hair. I would love to give this range a go to see if it can make my hair feel better/healthier again :-)

Thanks for the review - I'm constantly looking for new hair products to try, so might have to try these even if I don't win.

As for the giveaway, either #1 or #2 would suit me.

I have very fine hair which just hangs unless I blow dry it to give it volume. Its also very oily so I put blonde streaks in to help 'dry' it out but still have to wash (and blow dry) my hair daily or its too oily, but given its bleached and gets blow dried it means that I have "very fine, chemically damaged but oily hair". Don't you love it?!

I've read about this Nature Fusion Pantene, so when I searched for it at my local supermarket and didn't find it, I was very disappointed. Once again, it's something that the Eastern states have and we probably won't get it for a year or so. Phooey!!

I don't want the products (very sensitive skin here too!) But I am going to try the nature fusion range for Hubby and daughter who both have psoriasis, Hubby on his scalp.
He had been having a buzz cut all the time to help symptoms... but that's not something a 10 year old girl wants to do!
Thanks for the tip!

It is so great that you have found something that works for your scalp. I spent the last few years searching high and low for something to soothe my scalp and finally stumbled across Moo Goo, an all natural brand made from milk :) works a treat but it is expensive so I might try your suggestion now that I am getting close to broke lol.

I live in the U.S. (Tennessee), and I know that a long way from you and shipping is expensive. Anyways, I have rather think hair, so I think I'd like to try #1. However, I may take your advice and try the Pantene nature fusion products, as they are readily available here. Thanks for the tip!

I'd love to win no. 3 pretty please! :)
I'm really glad that you've found a product that's working for you! Do you think it's eventually going to get rid of your psoriasis, or are you stuck with that?

Your Happy Hair post really touched me. I have long taken my pretty, shiny, healthy hair for granted. At least I did until last summer. My best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer last May – she was 40 at the time of diagnosis. She had a double mastectomy followed by chemo. And of course, she lost her pretty hair. But seeing her so bald and so brave and so beautiful made me realize, (1) it’s just hair, and (2) I will never take my ‘just hair’ for granted again. I now appreciate every strand of hair on my head. (And every eyelash, too!) So reading about your struggle with your skin and scalp and your triumph in finding a solution, well, it made me very happy for you. Enjoy your pretty, happy hair!!

P.S. My friend is now cancer free, has her happy hair back and is doing better than ever.

I've suffered with "interesting" skin my whole life too but my problems have drastically reduced after finding sensitivities through a food elimination program I went on in desperation when my skin totally freaked out after I had my thrid child. I use cortisone creams only about once a week now. I never thought I'd find releif from it so although I know that admitting to psoriasis or eczema has everyone giving advice you get sick of hearing... there's my advice. Sorry! I couldn't help myself! :)
