Do you like working?

Yesterday I was asked if I'm enjoying being back in the office.

I couldn't decide whether to say yes or no...

I do like working with other people, especially when the person I'm working closely with is also a friend - but I don't like seeing my daughter for only three hours in total over three days.

I do like my work - but I don't like being in an office all day, especially with that cubical view.

I do like that it's giving me a much needed confidence boost in my professional ability - but I don't like the 9 to 5 hours. (I see a trend here - I have an issue with doing the time!)

I do like the office gossip - but I don't like, and I mean REALLY don't like, the traffic.

How about you? Do you like working?

Hmm, maybe like isn't exactly the word. Working from home, I find I resent the intrusion that paid work makes to my other work around the farm. Speaking of which, better go keep a client happy now and get working!

I could never go back to sitting in a cubicle. I love working but only because the job I am doing comes with lots of flexibilty and choice in how I go about it.

I'd probably echo all your sentiments. The additional comment for me would have to be that I don't like my workplace (lots of frustrating history and politics) but love the perks, which are great. it's a bit of a love-hate relationship. Glad I'm still on parental leave till at least April 2012!

The cubicle of death.

How I hate them. Windowless, soul less and at my last one I was told I was not to use drawing pins to but things on the pin board walls - WTF! I used sticky tape and plastered them with the girls!

I am very lucky. I am a long term employee in local government. Before children I worked full time but was able to return to work part-time. Both of my children are at school now and I work from 9am to 2pm 4 days a week. Life is busy but I get the best of both worlds. I am forever grateful to my boss for allowing me to work family friendly hours.

I'm not sure I want to be working because I feel like I have more than enough on my plate at the minute. What I do know is that I miss the comraderie of other people, I miss feeling like I am using my brain and doing something else (other than raising the Batsman and Bowler) that is important and means something to the world. Hmmm, bit of a sad sack today. Sorry xxxx

I agree, the traffic is SOO hard to handle!!! I was off all summer, and just went back a month ago so am transitioning as well! Best of luck to you!

I don't like the cubicle or the traffic but I do love the satisfaction of working and spending time with grown ups. Wish there was an easy balance!

I love, love, love my job. I get to teach what I love and talk about it all day. Well, one day a week. No cubicles, no traffic, only good gossip. Veggie Baby is in an onsite day care, I get paid good money, and I'm surrounded by people that I respect and who inspire me.

Did I mention I LOVE MY JOB?!

It has been a long time since I've had a "sit at your desk" kind of job and I am pretty sure I could never do it again! For me the most frustrating part of a 9 to 5 job is that nobody actually works the whole time, there is so much fiddling and inefficiency. I love working from home with some contact with the outside world through consulting and training, it's a perfect balance for me.

I've always been a working mom. As a teacher, it has allowed me a certain amount of flexibility with my schedule, but it's the kind of job that never goes away. I have to be very careful to set clear boundaries about when I work, and make my own children the priority. I wish I didn't have to work every day, and I wish I didn't always have a huge pile of papers to grade AFTER my work day is done. But I like the mental stimulation, the extra income, and the independence working provides me and my family.

I like the adult interaction, and the 30 hours a week is good for me. The financial comfort is really the only reason I show up. It's not my ideal job, but semi-flexible and better than the Centrelink line for me.

I do like working. I currently work about 30 a week. But my husband and I are planning on getting pregnant in a couple months, and significant time off will be considerable. I'm not sure how I'll handle the transition. I'm one of those people who thrives on feeling "productive," so we'll see how it all goes.

The only thing I like about working is payday. I'm not at all a social person and would love to stay home and just do whatever takes my fancy at the moment. But living isn't free, so I work to pay my rent, my bills, to buy my groceries and pay for my internet connection. I have a stand up job which is hard on my feet and aching legs, so I work the absolute minimum hours that I can.

I do really like working. When working involves doing the thing you love most in the world, for me, archaeological reasearch and/or field work, it is hard to make me go home. I also am a home bird, and love being here for my kids and see them grow up. Sometimes my life feels split into two parts. But I wouldn't have it any other way,

I like the whole office scene, and enjoy my work. Lucky for me it isn't a long drive from home so I don't worry about traffic, its the getting up early in the morning that gets to me sometimes.

I love working, but then I get to spend part of my work days outdoors. Yesterday I even had bare feet with my class.
At least my office has windows, even if all I do see are tennis courts and kids at lunch time!

What I don't like is somedays I leave so early and get home so late I on;y see my kids when they are sleeping. I will never get used to that.

Well, right now college is my only job. I'm like you. I really like being back in a classroom, but I don't like not having the wrting time I had last year. I like learning the material, but I don't like the tremendous time I have to spend studying it in order to remember it. There's really a pro and con for everything. but that happens for everything in life, right? dreamchasersdiaries.blogspot.com

I'd like to be able to say that I enjoy working... particularly as i am not cut out to be a stay-at-home mom to my wonderful boy; I get too claustrophobic. I'm a teacher as well as a writer, and I know that teaching is a valuable profession. I genuinely enjoy spending time with my students, and when I can teach them to find their own inner writing voice or introduce them to a book they become genuinely excited about, I really AM very happy. But teaching has become a chore - the paperwork, the vast numbers of initiatives and goals that exist to cover administrative rear ends, the obsessive focus on test scores, and the general teacher-bashing by all and sundry (at least that's how it feels some days!) make me quite despondent.

I wish I could be a roving writer-in-residence, or a roving storyteller, and get the good parts of teaching while avoiding the bad! Still, it DOES allow me to be both a mom and a writer, so I'm grateful for that, irritations nonwithstanding. :)

Oh I hear you, kinda. I work three nights a week, but next year my oldest starts school, and these days I'll see her for breakfast. It's a little too much for me to think about right now #sigh
