The week in dresses

At the end of last week I found myself agreeing to a dare by the gorgeous Andrea at Fox in Flats - to wear dresses for a week. (I've translated that to a working week, because today I am craving jeans.)

Here is my week in dresses. Oh, and I roped someone else in to join me with the dare too...

Monday: I go to the office, Abbey goes to childcare
Me: a black wrap dress I've had for years, with heels and red Elk beads
Her: a little Target number (which she was told off for wearing to childcare as it was 'too short', and they put pants on underneath. WTF?!)

Tuesday: I go to the office, Abbey goes to her Omi and Opi's house
Me: this grey wool dress is the best dress I've ever bought. Paris, 2006 - and I wore it to work through normal times, a pregnancy and now it's bounced back to shape for me to still wear it. Love that. This is how I usually wear it - with opaques and heels.
Her: a cute pink dress her Omi made

Wednesday: I go to the office, Abbey goes to childcare
Me: my little black dress, bought from Ojay earlier this year and since worn to a couple of formal events. Transformed to the office with leggings, heels, a little cami to hide the cleavage, and my new green Witchery beads
Her: another dress made by her Omi with leggings

Photobucket
Thursday: a day of running around together
Me: a lightbulb moment, taking a maxi-dress from Target (worn once before deciding it made me look fat) and wearing it with a belt, scarf and my trench. Me? Accessorising? Who knew!
Her: a gorgeous Pumpkin Patch dress, a birthday present from a friend

Photobucket
Friday: a day of running around together
Me: running out of dresses, I grab a summery number from Eternal Creation and layer it with leggings, ankle boots, cardigan, scarf and jacket (it was cold in Melbourne!)
Her: she wanted a skirt instead of a dress, and who was I to argue? I think she's cute enough to get away with cheating in the dare, yes?

The week has been a real eye-opener to me. I would usually look at my dresses hanging there, dismiss them as not suitable for the weather or just plain 'too hard' and move onto pants or jeans. This week has shown me that with a little thought, I can pull together a nice outfit.

I might even have to buy more dresses soon.

First of all... Abbey's dress too short WTF?????

You looked great every day, and I agree a belt is a light bulb moment who knew what a difference it could make!

Abbey is just too gorgeous for words :)

Thanks for joining in spunky! Love your outfits & creativity.
I found the same with this dare. I rarely wear dresses for the same reasons as you. Seems though, a bit of accessorising and layering goes a long, long way! x Andrea

What a spunky pair you make!! Love your styling, it's great you can update a summery dress with tights or leggings and a jacket. Your Paris dress is a beautiful classic. And I LOVE those green Witchery beads!! Abbey is just a bundle of gorgeousness!

I joined in too but didn't think to take photos of myself. Face palm!

Great work!
You look fantastic every day - and yes, gorgeous Abbey is cute enough to get away with rule breaking. Watch out!
(Especailly seeing as her reputation at daycare is already tainted - what the???)
:-)

Wish I'd known about the dare last week to join in! It looks like fun and I definitely put dresses in the too hard category to live in jeans. You both looked so sweet in your dresses all week, though I'm still reeling from the daycare centre comment.

Loving the dresses for a week thing. If all my dresses werent so fancy (church wear, old prom dresses, etc) I would do that. I wear skirts occationally, but not often. looks like it was fun though! daretodreamregardless.blogspot.com

I love how you had Abbey participate in the challenge as well, aside from daycare dress code weirdness!!

I love your accessorising. I never wear dresses, except for special occasions but I could see myself doing it now (post-breastfeeding anyway!)

I am not big on accessories, but I love the necklaces and scarves and belts on you. Gotta do more myself!

I've been enjoying your posts on Instagram. But loving Abbey's outfits too!

I love dresses, but don't think of wearing them first off either. Much rather wear jeans! But still... you look fabulous and did a great job!

I am lovin' the mother & daughter snaps. Keep that in an album for A. She'll LOVE looking at it when she's bigger.

You both look gorgeous.
