This Moment

This has been one of our favourite picture books for a while now. I bought it when Abbey was a baby and we read it together lots and lots - and lots and lots - of times.

We used to do all the actions (I talked about that in my review of the book), moving the book up and down, near and far, along with the words. We sang a little ditty for the clown sheep, made train noises for the train sheep, and pretended to sleep when the green sheep is found.

Then the book left us. We'd read it to pieces - literally. I had to throw it out because it had fallen apart.

I meant to buy a new copy straight away, but, well, time flies. It's been months and months since we last had this story.

I finally bought it again, and it arrived yesterday. We sat and read it together, and it was one of those moments when you realise how much your little one has grown up.

The last few months have seen a lot of changes in Abbey - a few months is a long time at this age. Now, she can talk along with the story. I only had to say a few words here and there, and she did the rest - 'star sheep!', 'red sheep!', 'fast asleep'. She now grows impatient at my little clown ditty and doesn't want to make the train noises. She wants to keep reading.

When you spend every day with a child, you don't notice the changes, the growing up. It's moments like these that make you realise how much has happened in such a short time.

Our little girl is growing up and learning so much all the time. And I'm one very proud Mum.
