I love camping. It's not unusual for Steve and I to crave a camping trip, or to take off on a Friday evening for a quick weekend away (although it didn't happen too much last year, because of a certain major renovation).
But I do understand why a lot of people don't enjoy it. So many people ask why? when I talk about going camping, and I get it. I really do. It can be a lot of work, it's dirty and absent from many modern day comforts.
This time, especially, I needed it. I really needed a break. And it worked: I've come back feeling happy, positive, and ready for whatever this year throws at me. I'm ready to face everything.
Here's what I love about camping...
♥ It's a chance to get away, at a moment's notice, without spending any money.
♥ It gets us away from everything - phones, computers, work, house, worries. Everything.
♥ It's back to basics. All that matters are food, shelter and water - that's it.
♥ The food tastes amazing. Rarely do we eat basic camping meals like sausages or chops. No. We make roasts, curries, stirfries with fresh vegies, soups, and beautiful desserts. And the taste of lovely meals, when cooked on the fire and eaten in the middle of nowhere, is amazing.
♥ It's a time to connect, with no distractions. Rather than sitting in front of the television at night, you're sitting by a campfire chatting. Instead of having to race around, you can play with your child undistracted.
♥ It's fun - swimming, driving, walking, reading, relaxing. Just the simple things.
♥ It's travel, seeing and experiencing new things.
♥ It's good for the soul.
I love it.
Tell me - what do you love or loathe about camping?
I have a love hate relationship with camping.
ReplyDeleteBut once I get out and do it I love it.
It is soul soothing... I must get some in soon.
Glad you had a good time. xxx
I love the idea of camping but the reality of it never lives up to the hype in my mind. I am still doing all of my daily chores just away from home with out any/modern conveniences.
ReplyDeleteI love camping for all the same reasons. It's just good for the soul to get back to nature and remember what is really important. I loathe march flies and mosqitoes, though.

I know why it's great...I just don't love it because I loathe being uncomfortable (says a lot about me). I actually think it's the bed situation more than anything which maybe is more about getting a decent air mattress? I did Girl Guides and didn't like it then either. I do foresee a time when I'll give it a go cos Bebito would LOVE it and Mr would love me to give it another go.
ReplyDeleteYou said it Megan, I hadn't done any camping until I met Paul. Once I got over the slight privations, and looked outside the square, I now really enjoy it! It has many magic moments that make it worth the effort.

I do love camping but find it hard to get organised. That's why we haven't been since Jacob was little :( Pre-kids we would go away heaps.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Kate you forgot to add leeches to that hate list lol!
I Love Camping!! The hubs not so much....more about how we were raised than anything else. I love it for many of the same reasons you do. The #1 reason? Getting away from all the daily grind and drudgery of being plugged in, & having a "set" schedule to follow. Camping = kicking back, relaxing, unplugging!!
ReplyDeleteI just hate the sleeping bit - I hate woodland noises and light coming through the tent, plus it is usually very uncomfortable. I love camping without the sleeping bit.
ReplyDeleteAlso we have awarded you a Stylish Blogger Award so check it out here
Hmmmm I'm of the hate camping camp(!), but I can see your points, that enforced family time would make for some really special moments. We might have to try it (I haven't camped since I was 14!)
