| 25 weeks. If one more person says I'm huge I won't be held responsible for my actions... |
"Oh my god! Your stomach has grown again! You're HUGE! ENORMOUS! You make a whale look tiny! If an elephant stood next to you it would feel petite! Honestly, I've never seen anyone bigger!"
The woman stood tall, put her hands on her hips (which must be in there somewhere) and brought herself back to a state of absolute calmness. She listened as the exclamations continued, and focused her attention on one thing.
The other - the one with the big mouth - was too busy talking and staring at the expanding waist region to notice. She didn't see the other woman's foot until it was just millimetres from her mouth. She drew her breath in shock and tried to form a scream, but by then it was too late.
The one with the belly stood there for a moment, hands still on imaginary hips and one leg extended with yoga-like gracefulness.
"Want me to remove the foot from your mouth yet?" she smiled.
I think you look wonderful!
ReplyDeletelol...you look awesome, Megan. Beautiful. I should send you pictures of what I looked like at 25 weeks. I could not have lifted my foot any higher than the person's shin.
ReplyDeleteI felt huge until I hit 29 weeks and now I feel like I'm where I ought to be. But if you want to feel nicely petite, go and see my latest photo of mine. You look perfectly proportioned to me.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I was the same with my second. It is quite amazing the three or four of you who are pregnant right now and at about the same stage. You are all beautiful and unique :-)
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous, no elephants about it! x
ReplyDeleteDo you want me to put a hit out on these women? You could not be more beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSorry you're on the receiving end of that crap. I don't really think anyone has a right to comment on size in pregnancy at all - big or small. I got a lot of comments about how small I was last pregnancy. And it actually got me a bit upset because then I worried that there was something wrong with my baby, and after losing two already that was hard to deal with!
ReplyDeletePeople just shouldn't comment at all. It's so irrelevant. I hate that people say such stupid things to pregnant women. Promise me if anyone says anything like that again to let me know so i can come and punch them. Grrr...can you tell this makes me a bit cranky?!

ReplyDeleteWell as the midwives at work keep saying, size is not all that important, babies are more like real estate, it is all about position, position, position.
ReplyDeleteNo one on earth will be as big as I felt when pregnant.
LOL Megan - I have just reached the stage where I feel like I look pregnant and not just like I've gained 20kgs so I am enjoying it. I'll get back to you in a few weeks though... xx
ReplyDeleteSome people's brains cease to function properly when they see a pregnant woman. I will never know why people think they can say the things they do, but with the very rare exception I still believe people are trying to come from a good place.
ReplyDeleteHi, i'm Felipe's wife (this account owner) and i'm in my twenty-third week. This morning I met a woman that told me the same! I was very upset also because she is bigger than me and she is not pregnant! Bye and good luck
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about commenting on this for a while because I remember you had the same feelings when you were pregnant with Abbey. I made the mistake of commenting on your size rather than your appearance at the annual dinner and it was a lesson that I learned well. These past four years I have never commented on a woman's size, rather how well she looks. But I do think that you are being a little over sensitive. To us non-pregnants, a pregnant belly is fascinating, it's such a novelty and a wonder to behold! When people comment on your size, they're never referring to your weight, and they never mean it in an unkind way. It's meant as a compliment to you as a woman performing such an admirable task - and even more so when that task (a beautiful baby)is of considerable size! I'm sure it gets tiring hearing it over and over again (refer to previous comment about novelty), but perhaps next time someone says something you could try thinking of it that way and save the energy you would have spent in getting cross. But what would I know - I've never been in that position.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I think you have a rather sweet looking baby bump and I'm looking forward to meeting him/her.
Truly, I think people should NEVER comment on the size of another person whether they are pregnant or not. It's not anyone's business but the person who owns the body! I don't know if you remember but when I was pregnant with Luca one of my work colleagues called me, "fatty" incessantly. Truly, I wanted to kick her in the teeth. There is something about being pregnant that makes you feel heavy and being told your huge is not a welcome statement at all. I actually think it's important people are told this because it is hurtful and there are other types of "small talk" that are just as acceptable! By the way, you're just as gorgeous as always. x
