A change
We walked in the door at 6pm. Hot day, clouds hanging overhead preparing for the change.
That feeling of having to get your shoes off right this moment.
Flung them, caught a glimpse inside the cupboard. Something snapped.
Dinner had to be organised, but I left them to it.
Grabbed a couple of bags: the biggest, strongest type.
Black heels, strappy heels, those with a touch of bling, shoes that I liked but didn't fit well (must have been bargains), pewter flats that dig into my heels, long boots - all into the bags.
A few select pairs are all that remain.
I know I no longer need the ones I wore to the office every day, several years ago.
I know that my new way of life is working out. It's safe to turn my back on the old.
The bags will make their way elsewhere. Someone else's size 9s can slip into the lovely heels and walk off into that world.
The clouds gave way, finally letting the rain splosh out and clear the air. The change had arrived.
Excellent! That feeling is so freeing.
