The eyes of a baby
Her eyes are brilliant blue and strikingly expressive. In them I can see when she's tired, when she panics, when she's reassured. I can see her smile before it reaches her mouth, or a little frown about to form. In those eyes I see her delight when she chats to us and, when we chat back, realises we can hear her; when she reaches her hand and learns that she can touch things.
People often tell me they can see everything I'm thinking in my eyes. Hers are the same.
On Christmas morning this baby girl will wake to receive a couple of gifts. She's been hard to buy for - not because she has everything and certainly not due to a lack of options in the shops. It's because a baby doesn't need anything.
She has her hands, a source of endless fascination, as her feet soon will be too. She has us, her family, to watch and wonder and communicate with.
The world according to a baby is pure. No worries, no need for 'things', no desire for more.
It just is.
Her eyes. All is right as I let myself fall into her world of expression.
All so true Megan. She seems a beautiful, inquisitive spirit. I struggled with Mr 1 for the same reasons with gifts. He has pencils, a few books, blocks and a few cars but really what he loves is interaction with us and playing boo. He's helped remind me of the simplicity of things. The importance of "company" and the beauty of truly exploring every corner of the yard. He has expressive eyes too. We are so blessed aren't we? Xxx
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat photo says it all.
Those eyes certainly are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBooks, she still needs books....actually, you probably have 40 billion of them already, but those eyes need lots of books.

Beautiful! Eyes are the window to the soul I've read....and babies connect with us in such mystical &wondrous ways ... With our recent 3 grand kids coming to us as babies now growing into toddlerhood & pre school & school...their eyes have given me great connections ..agree with Clairey. Books! Have a wonderful Christmas with your family! Denyse
